Political Punch
ABC News’ Ann Compton (@AnnCompton) reports:
James Fayson got his job back making Jeeps in Ohio, and now he’s making the case for President Obama’s re-election campaign.
The 36-year-old Chrysler worker spent Wednesday at work, trailed by a campaign film crew.
“I’m very thankful to be back to work,” Fayson told the Toledo Blade newspaper, “and it’s only because of the decision that the President made to save the auto industry that I was afforded [the chance] to come back to work.”
President Obama is meeting Fayson and other workers in the community around a Jeep Wrangler assembly plant to mark the end of the government’s rescue of Chrysler at 1:30 p.m. today. The company went through bankruptcy, then repaid more than $7 billion in bailout loans to the federal governement last week. Now the Treasury Department has announced it is selling the last of its shares of Chrysler stock to Fiat of Italy which now owns Chrysler. U.S. taxpayers lost about $1.3 billion in the company’s rescue.
James Fayson lost his assembly line job at the height of the bankruptcy but was hired back late in 2010.
