New wheels for city
The City of Thorold is getting some new wheels.
At the July 19 meeting of city council, councillors gave the go-ahead to spend about $62,820 for the purchase of three new trucks for city operations.
Colombo Motors of Woodbridge will supply a 2011 Dodge 1500 half-tonne truck for the parks and cemeteries department, at a cost of $16,276 plus tax. Colombo was the lowest of seven offers made by dealerships, including Niagara Motors of Virgil, Performance Chrysler Dodge Jeep of St. Catharines, and Grimsby’s Forbes Ford Sales.
Dave Akrigg, operations manager, told city councillors in a report that the truck — replacing an older one — is “essential” for the department.
Forbes Brothers will supply at new three-quarter tonne Chevrolet cargo van at a cost of $24,169 plus tax. The new van will replace an old 2000 Dodge van. Forbes’ offer was the lowest of three bids.
Forbes Brothers also edged out the same other two dealerships, with the lowest price for a Chevrolet 4X4 extended cab pickup truck. The truck, needed for the public works department, will cost $22,375 plus tax.
