Lake County Dodge Adds Jeep
”Project Genesis” sounds like a plan from a sci-fi movie, but it is Chrysler’s way of being more efficient.
As part of the plan, the American automaker is combing all of its vehicle lines – Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep – into one facility. For Jamestown, that facility is Lake County Dodge.
Jerry Swanson, Lake County Dodge president and owner, said the dealership has just added Jeep to its line of vehicles. Along with the new line of Jeep products, like the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the dealership had to remolded its exterior and interior to be one of Chrysler’s Genesis dealers.
”We are now the only authorized warranty dealer for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram trucks in southern Chautauqua County,” he said.
Swanson said with the addition of Jeep, that he will be able to add two more sales people and either one or two mechanics to the dealership’s service department. Along with new car sales, Lake County Dodge also sells pre-owned vehicles. The Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealer, located at 1001 Washington St., also has a full-service body-and-service shop to go along with its parts division.
The car dealer said he has been working on acquiring Jeep ever since it left the Jamestown area in the spring of 2009. The removal of Jeep in Jamestown was just one of 28 dealers to shut its doors in New York last year. The cutback was part of Chrysler’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan. However, with Jeep coming back to the area, Swanson said it shows how the auto company is rebounding.
”It is definitely a positive sign for Jeep and Chrysler,” he said. ”It is an honor to be the only Jeep dealer serving the community.”
Swanson said the first few Jeeps showed up at the end of July, with many new product lines coming in the next few months.
”Jeep is a wonderful compliment to the Chrysler, Dodge and Ram truck line and, because of the support of our customers, we will be celebrating our 27th anniversary on Sept. 1,” he said. ”Local businesses survive on local support, which enables communities to survive and prosper. We are very fortunate to live in this beautiful area and because of our customers we have been able to survive in some very difficult economic times.”
