MOPAR and Chrysler Introduce Nationwide Vehicle Tracking System
Technology is revolutionizing the way we drive. There’s the voice-activated Ford SYNC system, On-Star and navigation systems — among others — that make driving easier. Mopar adds another system to the list: the Electronic Vehicle Tracking System (EVTS), which helps locate stolen vehicles and features a nationwide tracking system. EVTS is available with Chrysler models.
PR News Wire spoke with President and Chief Executive Officer of Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care Pietro Grolier. “Mopar’s new tracking system provides vehicle owners the peace of mind that comes with always knowing where their vehicle is located,” Grolier explains. “And if someone else is driving their vehicle too fast or too far, the system can be enabled to send them a text.”
How does EVTS track cars? “[It] is based upon the GPS-based transponders engineered by Guidepoint Systems, and simply plugs into the OBD-II diagnostic port found underneath the dashboard on all modern Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram vehicles,” Automobile Magazine explains.
Mopar offers three packages: Base, Silver and Gold. According to PR Newswire, the Base package offers a GPS stolen vehicle locator, GPS stolen vehicle tracking and $1,000 theft protection warranty.
“Silver and Gold users get added protection,” USA Today elaborates. “Silver plan users can set speed and distance parameters on the car. No, it won’t stop the car from going too far away, but it will send a text alert to the registered owner.”
The Gold plan offers more. “[It] includes all of the features in the Silver package along with unlimited online tracking and a full concierge service, allowing vehicle owners to receive directions, make reservations and receive other needed assistance at the touch of a button using the EVTS registered owner’s cell phone,” USA Today continues.
Vehicle tracking systems aren’t revolutionary, but Automobile Magazine says MOPAR and Chrysler hope the system’s nationwide ability will appeal to a range of consumers such as “nervous owners, concerned parents, or cautious fleet operators.”
