Next-gen Dodge Viper could get bigger, badder 8.7 litre V10!
2010 Dodge Viper
The Dodge Viper was created as sort of a tribute to classic American muscle cars. The recipe for the Viper was simple. Dodge got one of the engines from its trucks and bolted it into the chassis of sports car. Bring in the biggest rubber known to man and a few crude suspension gubbins and finally some red paint. The Dodge Viper was thus born. The car featured a huge 8.4 litre V10 engine from a truck which churned out 500 horsepower in the later versions. Now, there have been reports lately of a new Viper.
It is rumoured that Dodge- the maker of the Viper could be thinking of a much larger engine for the next generation muscle car. No less than 8.7 litres is what the Americans propose. One can thus expect horsepower figures in the range of at least 600-650 bhp making it the biggest engine Chrysler has ever produced. Still, Dodge engineers will have to deal with stricter emission standards with the new car and something that authorities would have an eye on will be the fuel economy figures. It will be tough no doubt, for Dodge to please the regulatory body.

That said, the new Dodge Viper may not give-up its reputation of being one of the crudest and maddest sports cars. Of course, the Viper won’t as good as a Prius when it comes to miles per gallon numbers but then, it isn’t built to burn its juice sparingly either. It is a car for muscle car enthusiasts who find a ride in the Kingda Ka like a walk in the park. If you are one of those would rather like to end up in a Dodge Viper than a coffin, this is the ride for you and Dodge will soon make it more exciting by adding a few 100 cc more to the excitement.
